Beef Biriyani – Nanaaba’s beef recipe ideas

Biriyani is an Indian inspired , one pot rice dish, cooked, and served party style. You’ll find Biriyani at most parties, such as weddings in Swahili East African countries, such as Tanzania and Kenya.
INGREDIENTS:
* 8 beef short ribs seasoned with tsp salt and tsp crushed black pepper
* 2 large red onions thinly sliced and crispy fried (fry in batches)
* 2-3 cups oil for deep frying onions
* 1 medium red onion thinly sliced for sauce preparation
* 1 beef/chicken/or vegetable bouillon cube (optional)
* 3 Serrano chilis minced
* 1/2 tsp curry powder
* Pinch of grated nutmeg
* 1/4 tsp crushed black pepper
* 1 tbsp each garlic and ginger paste
* 1 tbsp paprika or chili powder
* 2 cups freshly chopped tomatoes
* Juice of 1/2 a lime or lemon
* 1 tbsp chopped cilantro (and extra for garnish)
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 2 bay leaves
* 2 star anise
* 8 green cardamom pods
* 1/2 cup plain yogurt
* 1/6 cup of water (as braising liquid)
* A shallow film of fried onion infused oil for searing beef short ribs 2-4 mins on all sides

*** braise for 40 to 45 mins or until beef short ribs are fork tender. Retrieve star anise and cinnamon stick prior to serving ***

INGREDIENTS FOR RICE:

* 4 cups basmati rice washed
* 12 cups water brought to a boil and generously seasoned with salt
* 3-4 tbsp fried onion infused oil
* Pinch of saffron steeped in 4 tbsp of hot water (substitute saffron with 4 tbsp carrot juice, or a pinch of turmeric steeped in 4 tbsp hot water)

*** parboil rice for 10-12 mins, and drain. Add rice to beef sauce. Drizzle saffron juice to a select portion of rice and add a handful of fried onions, spread over top of rice, and place a clean towel and lid, cook on low heat for 20 mins, and serve. ***

  • This sure looks delish especially with the short ribs 😍😍my goodness. The sauce looks incredible and well fried. I was blessed to have some saffron threads in a basmati rice I recently purchased, I gotta give this a try with the short ribs… I think that’s the highlight of this dish for me especially with the extra flavor it will bring to this dish.
